Abnormal cervical screening tests (CST, the new name for ‘Pap Smear’) are common in women at all ages. When you have an abnormal CST, or have symptoms such as bleeding after sex, intermenstrual bleeding or abnormal discharge, you may need to have a colposcopy.
This is a simple procedure where a microscope is used to look at your cervix in greater detail, after the application of one or two dyes. If we identify abnormal cells, we take a biopsy. This isn’t painful, but causes some uterine cramping.
After having a colposcopy, you may need to have a LLETZ (Large Loop Excision of the Transformation Zone), or Cone biopsy to treat any abnormalities.
Dr Lusink is a skilled colposcopist, and also enjoys vulvoscopy and treatment of vulval abnormalities.
